Gocha Laghidze

Gocha developed an interest in weapon craftsmanship during his school years. He is a master of Georgian traditional craftsmanship and a member of both the Union of Artists of Georgia and the Union of Artists of the Netherlands. Since 1994, he has been living and working in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, where he also holds the title of Master of the Guild of Goldsmiths. In 2006–2007, he served as an invited professor at the Antwerp Academy of Fine Arts. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous exhibitions and shows across the Netherlands and other European countries, earning 15 Grands Prix for Best Work and receiving recognition for his special contribution to Dutch culture. In 2009, he worked at the National Museum of Georgia as an invited restorer. His dedication to Georgian craftsmanship led him to found, construct and financially support the web-site www.georgians-weapons.com, an internet portal that actively promotes and supports Georgian weapon-making both domestically and internationally. Gocha participated in Knife Show Tbilisi in 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as Tbilisi Art Knife Expo in 2024. In 2023, he was awarded “The Best Traditional Work” prize and won “The Innovation of the Year” category. He is a board member of the Knife Makers and Collectors As-sociation of Georgia.
